Star cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Chief Minister Madhu Koda have joined hands to hold a charity cricket match to collect contributions for the cash-starved CM’s Relief Fund.
The charity match would be played between cricketers and film stars in the State Capital, Koda said after holding a 30-minute meeting with Dhoni at the chief minister’s residence.
“The plan is in its initial stage. We are yet to decide a date for the match,” Koda said.
The Sunday meeting was solely to discuss issues related to the charity match, Dhoni said.
The date for the match would be decided only after the State’s authorities get the consent of cricketers and film stars, CM’s press advisor Sandip Verma said.
Earlier, Dhoni reached the CM’s residence at 3, Kanke Road amidst tight security cover. Besides armed bodyguards, an escort vehicle comprising armed policemen followed Dhoni from his Shyamali Colony residence.
When asked about Naxalite threat, Dhoni said police authorities had so far not informed about it. “I have no such information,” Dhoni said in presence of the chief minister.
Koda, on the other hand, reasoned, that Dhoni was a “very precious asset” for Jharkhand, which is why his security cover had been improved. “Whatever security Dhoni requires we will provide,” Koda said.
Earlier on Saturday, the police provided additional security cover to Dhoni when he reached his hometown after visiting Delhi and Mumbai. An additional police car escorted Dhoni from the airport to his residence.
