"She never uses the car. We have requested her a number of times. But she has refused. Yet we always keep it in her convoy for security," said a senior police official attached to VIP security in the state.
Even on Wednesday, during the third phase of polls, the car (WB06A-7839) rolled in near 30 B Harish Chatterjee Street in the afternoon. The Trinamool chief, who left her house for Hooghly around 4.30 am, avoided the bullet-proof car and walked into another one. As she travelled to Chinsurah, Chapdani and Uttarpara in Hooghly, the car followed in her convoy.
According to the state government, a bullet-proof car allotted to Banerjee in 2002 was unused till 2007, when the state was forced to withdraw it. It was in 2010, the car was once again introduced.
