Getting stuck in an image is not new to the Hindi film industry and whether a star likes it or not, he’s most often stuck in a stereotype, for life. But then there are a few fortunate beings like Dino Morea, who despite having a big success called Raaz in his life, has successfully escaped from the typecast trap.

A chilled out Dino says, “The best thing about not being slotted, in any one category, is that the audience doesn’t know what to expect from you. For instance, after the release of Holiday, it felt good when people told me that they had no idea I could dance so well.”

Though he has no answers to explain why the film failed, he says candidly, “Some did say that the film’s heroine Onjolee Nair wasn’t good enough. Anyway, now I’m looking forward to, directed by Deepak Tijori, in which I’m playing the deaf Tom, with Anuj as Dick, a blind guy and Jimmy Shergill as Harry, a mute. And we all fall in love with the same girl, played by Celina Jaitley.”

Dino Morea is keeping his fingers crossed for Deepak Tijori’s Tom, Dick and Harry. He plays a deaf guy called tom in the film.

The camaraderie the actors shared is evident, going by the promos on air currently. “And we played lots of pranks too,” grins Dino. “Once we were shooting in a discotheque and this particular scene had Celina sitting by the bar, sipping a cola and saying her lines. In between takes, we poured vodka into her cola, knowing very well that she doesn’t drink alcohol. When she emptied her glass, she did realise what we had done. After the shot she fired us, but still she was sporting enough.”

Does he have expectations from the film? “After seeing

Tom, Dick and Harry

, people will realise I can do comedy too.” What next? “A hardcore action film, with amazing thrills,” he says promptly. His last action flick was the Sohail Khan production,

Fight Club.

“It wasn’t all action. It had a bit of everything — drama, comedy, action, romance.” And what about Dharmesh Darshan’s

Aap Ke Khatir

, the

desi

version of

Roadhouse

, with Akshaye Khanna? “I’m play a Casanova, wooed by two sisters, Priyanka Chopra and Ameesha Patel. It’s an interesting story, with unpredictable twists,” is all he’s willing to reveal.

Apart from that, Morea is going slow on signing films. “I’d rather do good quality work than anything regular, predictable and boring. I want to enjoy my work,” he signs off.
