THE EXECUTIVE committee meeting of the Gorakhpur University has postponed the proposal for extending service span of university teachers to 65 years and it would be discussed in future after clarification from the government. Besides, the committee passed a budget of Rs 24 crore for the financial year 2006-07.

The significant meeting of the executive committee was convened here to discuss the 44-point agenda but hectic discussion over some disputed issues forced the committee members to postpone the issue for the next meeting.
Regularisation of services of 11 teachers and 26 employees would also be discussed later. The committee, however, approved the promotion of teachers in Philosophy, English and in Department of Defence Studies.
The meeting was significant since seven teachers who were on the verge of retirement were expecting relief from the decision of the executive committee to implement the government order regarding enhancement of service length of teachers in higher education.
The meeting also has to discuss proposal for appearance of male candidate as private students in graduate and postgraduate classes and introduction of Career and Advancement Scheme in various department. It was also significant that four newly elected members of the council, including SP MLC Ganesh Shanker Pandey, former MLC Devendra Pratap Singh, and Advocate Indubhushan Srivastav were to participate in the meeting for the first time.
