Presiding over a joint meeting of the Municipal Corporation and the District Administration, the DM issued orders to carry out surprise inspections of Fair Price shops in the city.

“If any irregularity is found during the inspection then FIR will be lodged against the shop owner and he will be sent to jail,” said the DM. He added that stern action would be taken against the Supply Officers and the Marketing Inspectors of the District Supply Office (DSO). It was also decided that inspection of petrol pumps would also be carried out.

The DM issued directives to regional officers of the DSO instructing them to ensure that all Fair Price shops distribute goods from 7.30 am to 11.30 am. Then in the evening from 3.30 pm to 8 pm.

He also issued orders to distribute ration cards by May 28 to all those living below poverty line (BPL). Instructions relating to display of rate list and a separate list of BPL cardholders were also issued by the DM.

“The distribution process will be monitored by additional city magistrate in urban areas. While in rural areas it will be supervised by Panchayat Secretary and Lekhpal,” said Srivastav.

Expressing his concern on the slow process of cleaning of drains in the city, the DM reprimanded the chief engineer of the Municipal Corporation.

He issued directives to prepone the last date of cleaning of drains in the city from July 15 to June 15.

“If necessary then more labourers must be pressed into service for cleaning of drains before the onset of monsoon,” directed the DM.

Despite the advance payment of Rs 3 lakh for cleaning of the drains, the process had not yet started which was a matter of grave concern, added DM.

He also instructed the officials of the Municipal Corporation to start the process of cleaning of all 127 drains within a day.
