DMK's Tiruvarur dist secretary killed in bomb blast

A district secretary of the ruling DMK, Poondi Kalaiselvan, was killed in a bomb blast at his residence in Tiruvarur here, says the police.

A District Secretary of the ruling DMK, Poondi Kalaiselvan, was killed in a bomb blast at his residence in Tiruvarur here, police said on Saturday.

The blast took place when Kalaiselvan was meeting some visitors, they said adding he was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.

Tension prevailed in the district after the incident. Shops and business establishments in the town were closed in the wake of the murder.
