Cautioning Muslims against supporting Congress, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee said on Tuesday that the party could not be trusted as it had a record of betraying those who had relied on it.

"There seems a change in the stance of Muslims and they are shifting from Samajwadi Party towards Congress. But how can they rely on a party, which has betrayed many people in the past," Vajpayee told an election rally in his Parliamentary constituency in Lucknow.
Congress had made promises to leaders like Jagjivan Ram and Morarji Desai to make them prime ministers but later ditched them, he said.
The Congress is power hungry and is not interested in giving others a chance, Vajpayee said.
