"I didn't say it. I spent a number of hours in that interview, a lot of it on tape and when I asked the reporter … to play back the tape for me, I was told the tape was turned off, and it was something that was written down, and I just don't buy that,” Doughlas was quoted by The New York Daily News, as saying.

Douglas repeated his denial on "Extra," mentioning that he has written Pitt and Jolie a letter of apology.

"I consider him a good friend," said Douglas, who's promoting his movie "The Sentinel." "And she does wonderful work for the United Nations. … There's just a lot of pressure on the print media and they get to kind of exploitative quotes to try to attract people for their circulation, so it was unfortunate."

"I don't know about Brad Pitt," GQ quoted Douglas as saying, "leaving that beautiful woman [Jennifer Aniston] to go hold orphans for Angelina. I mean how long is that going to last?"

But now Douglas claims GQ writer Jeanne Marie Laskas made up the quote while GQ editors say the only thing that's unfortunate is Douglas' selective memory.
