The National Commission for Women (NCW) has launched an inquiry into allegations of demanding and accepting dowry against an IFS probationer and has summoned him to appear before it on August 21.

Acting on a complaint made by one Rachna Kumari Jha that Amit Kumar Mishra, an IFS probationer, took Rs five lakh as dowry, the Commission has asked both of them to come for a hearing, an NCW spokesperson told on Monday.

"Both the complainant and the accused have been summoned to appear for a hearing before the NCW Chairperson Girija Vyas," the spokesperson said.

The NCW had earlier sought a report from Delhi Police on the alleged incident.

Jha had also complained that Mishra broke the engagement with her when he was offered a bigger dowry by someone else.
