Senior BJP leader and leader of opposition in Maharashtra legislative council Nitin Gadkari has been booked for violation of election code of conduct in Nagpur, alongwith the saffron combine's nominees for Nagpur-Kamptee and Ramtek Lok Sabha seat.

"Gadkari was booked yesterday alongwith BJP's nominee for Nagpur-Kamptee Atal Bahadur Singh and Sena nominee for Ramtek Subodh Mohite, for violation of section 135 of the Bombay Police Act", a senior official with the Election Commission office in the state said.

Supporters accompanying Gadkari and the Sena-BJP alliance candidates raised party slogans in the premises of the district collectorate on Monday where they had gone to file nominations, sources said.

Besides the three, former MP and Vidarbha Rajya Party's (VRP) nominee from Nagpur-Kamptee seat Banwarilal Purohit has also been booked for similar violation, sources added.
