In a communication sent to Jaya, the Commission said if she or her authorised representative failed to appear for the hearing on Thursday, it will proceed with the matter ex-parte.

Rejecting her pleas for postponement of the hearing, the Commission in its January 7 communication pointed out that the hearing had already been postponed thrice since November 28 last year on her request.

The petitioner Madan Mohan Shukla had approached President APJ Abdul Kalam seeking her disqualification from the upper house on the ground that she was holding an office of profit as Chairperson of UP Film Development Board at the time of her election to the upper house from the state.

Acting upon a reference from the office of the President, the Commission had issued notice to her in October last year in the matter.
