Efforts on to raise awareness about AIDS

Speaking at the national pre-educator conference under the charka project, which was attended by charka workers throughout the country, Narang said that keeping in mind the spread of the dreaded disease, a national council had been set up, chaired by the prime minister. She said that panchayati raj, tourism department, surface transport department and 29 other ministries would appoint nodal officers for the programme.

Elaborating on the plan, she said that a tourist guide would be trained to inform tourists about the precautions necessary to protect oneself from AIDS.

The first meeting in this regard was held on August 8 and several departments had started appointing nodal officers .

Charka workers from Aizwal, Kishanganj, Bellari, Kanpur, Udaipur and Guntur participated in the conference which was inaugurated by the district magistrate.
