Officer Mateen Khan said the aid workers were kidnapped in the Surkhab area of southwestern Baluchistan province, where they were distributing food to Afghan refugees.

Khan said all the workers were Pakistanis, but he did not say which group they were working for. He added that they were traveling in two vehicles.

A separatist insurgency has wracked Baluchistan for years and incidents of kidnapping for ransom are common there.

Earlier this month, a Swiss man and woman were kidnapped, and they have yet to be recovered.
