Industry, trade and health department services are also hampered due to power cuts. Soaring mercury has added to miseries of the people.
Urban areas are getting only 10-hour power supply and rural areas were getting 6 to 7 hours for the past one week.
On Friday, the city witnessed 15-hour power rostering. According to the Power Corporation officials, the power supply in the entire city was suspended from 11 to 11.30 pm due to local disturbance while two-hour emergency power rostering was witnessed from 2.15. pm to 4. 15 am. In the morning, power supply was suspended from 5.50 am and was restored at 2.50 pm. While in the fourth spell, the power supply was suspended at 3.30 pm and was not restored till the filing of reports.
BSP leader Syed Irshad Ahmad and corporator Nabiullah Ansari had expressed his apprehension that power rostering at the time of prayer on Friday could trigger law and order problem. They said, for the last four weeks UPPCL officials had been suspending power supply in the city on every Friday and demanded an inquiry.
City is receiving power only for one-and-half-hour in short spells due to which invertors have also conked off.
Water supply system in Illahibagh, Tiwaripur, Nizampur, Sahibganj, Khoonipur, Askerganj, Turkmanpur, Rasoolpur, Ajay Nagar, Jamunahia, Zahidabad, Jafra Bazar, Diwan Bazar was also badly affected due to power rostering and residents of these areas were crying for water. According to reports, Bhiti Rawat, Jungle Kauria, Campierganj and other areas were getting 5 to 6 hour power supply.
The whole night power rostering in villages has compounded the problems of the commuters. Residents of Unwal and traders’ community leader Kanhaya Lal Verma, SP leader Ram Dhari Yadav, BSP leader Ram Avtar and others said the claims made by Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav were hollow. Power control system in Lucknow informed that the two units of Nagpa were disturbed, hence there was a shortfall of around 1500 MW power generation. He said the deformity in the Nagpa unit has been addressed.
