Angre was involved in a case of threat and extortion involving a builder and evaded arrest for quite some time. He made a frantic attempt to get out on bail but could not succeed till the Apex Court granted it to him on May 1.

His petition was dismissed by all the courts and finally he had to surrender in February 2008.

It took five more days for the bail orders to reach the Thane central jail and this evening he walked out to meet his family members and friends.

Angre, a cop who had gunned down several dreaded gangsters, was released on a bail of Rs 25,000. He is to appear in the Thane court again on May 16.
