ESPN Star Sports to telecast World Cup

ESPN STAR Sports, the official broadcaster of FIFA World Cup-2006 in India, will broadcast every action of the big championship from June 9.

ESPN STAR Sports, the official broadcaster of FIFA World Cup-2006 in India, will broadcast every action of the big championship from June 9.

Talking to the media persons here today, ESPN Software India Private Ltd Vice President (Marketing and Sales) Sricharan Aiyangar said that he expected considerable increase in the viewership of FIFA World Cup this year.

“The FIFA World Cup is one of the most watched sporting spectacles across the globe with last edition having a cumulative audience base of 28.8 billion worldwide. In India, we expect the cumulative audience figure to increase considerably with the soccer viewership”, said Aiyangar.

The sports network will have a special Hindi feed during the Word Cup. Elaborating on this, Aiyangar said that he is looking forward to reach the mass Indian market during this World Cup to build soccer sports in the country. “The special Hindi feed will a lot of value to our telecast”, he said.

The sports channel has built number of progamme ranges from the stories based on the setbacks, shocks, gripping victories and others especially on the World Cup.

The special programmes include ‘FIFA Preview’-the series will profile stars, coaches, and analyse each nation’s prospects against teams within the group, ‘FIFA Stories’-the programme will be based on the most surprising and shocking results in the World Cup and ‘FIFA Officials Films’-films from archives to research fascinating histories of the some of the most successful nations in World Cup football.
