European Union delegation led by British Prime Minister Tony Blair on Wednesday called on President APJ Abdul Kalam and shared his view that a new direction has to be given in energy cooperation for development of alternate sources of energy.

During a 30-minute meeting with Blair, who was accompanied by EU Commission President Jose Manuel Darroso and other members, President Kalam emphasised the need for more cooperation at the University level and higher education as also academic exchange programme involving professors from each other's country, Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesman SM Khan said.
The President highlighted need for lap-to-lap direct contacts between scientists from two sides for research and innovations, Khan said. President Kalam stressed on intensifying cooperation between India and EU in solar and nuclear power and bio-fuel sectors.
Blair and Jose enquired about the functioning of educational sector in India and the large number of scientific personnel working abroad.
