Ex-Army man, wife get life term for killing neighbour

An ex-serviceman and his wife were today sentenced to life imprisonment for killing a neighbour in 2003.

Fast Track Court Judge P Boopalan also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 each on M Udhayakumar (45), who had served in the Army, and his wife Selvi, residents of Naganur village, 43 km from Dharampuri.

According to the prosecution, Udhayakumar and Selvi had assaulted their neighbour M Prakasam, with whom they had been having frequent quarrels, on September 9, 2003 with deadly weapons, killing him on the spot.

Eriyur police registered a case and arrested the couple.
