The first day after the inauguration got Rs 2.2 lakh collection at the ticketing counter.

This is just about the collections at the venue counter. There are many more Mahotsava ticket counters all over the city and the sales from them have not been compiled as yet.

The inaugural day saw tickets worth Rs 31,990 sold. Sunday’s figures were Rs 2.2 lakh while Monday’s figures were Rs 1.1 lakh.

“I think the first Sunday of Mahotsava this time brought highest number of people in a single day ever since the inception of Mahotsava. Though in terms of money it is not so. In terms of money last years first Sunday fetched Rs 3.23 lakh. But this year, despite crowd being more than last year’s in statistics it is not so. Unlike last year, this time we have offered ‘half-ticket’ for children. And children comprise a sizeable number of visitors. Also, this is the first time that we have offered Seasonal Ticket. A seasonal ticket, valid for all the ten days, is for Rs 50 only. We have sold more than 500 seasonal tickets already,” said a tourism department staff at the ticket counter.

This time the Mahotsava is biggest ever—both in terms of elements (stalls, food counters etc) and area. And the organizers are expecting that it will be the biggest crowd puller Mahotsava in 31 years history of it.

“Next Saturday and Sunday are likely to bring the biggest crowd as well as biggest money collection through tickets,” said the ticket official.

“Yes, this time the Mahotsava is so spread out that it is not possible for a person to properly enjoy it in one or two days. People will have to make multiple visits to it,” said Shobha Mishra, a Mahotsava enthusiast.
