Superintending Engineer RN Garg, who heads entire Faridabad Circle comprising Faridabad and Palwal districts, confirmed that action is being initiated against him for dereliction of duty.

The DHBVN authorities of Faridabad circle placed a request for new transformers to replace those damaged by windstorm with the DHBVN headquarter at Hissar, the officials said.

Suspecting something fishy, the DHBVN headquarter sent a team of officials to Faridabad and Palwal to review the position on the ground.

"As against the requisition for 47 transformers of 200 KV each, we found only 18 transformers with minor damages", Mohammad Shayin, Managing Director of DHBVN told HT .

The officials said even some fresh transformers were installed at many places wherever need for replacement was felt. "We came to know that even those transformers shown to have been damaged due to windstorm were actually damaged much earlier", Shayin said.

"Since this unwarranted action on the part of officers in Faridabad circle has caused monetary loss to the Nigam, losses will be recovered from their salaries."
