More than a dozen key real estate players, who are building 20,000 houses in multi-storey residential towers in 8 sectors of Noida, stopped work on Wednesday. Farmers have said they would sit on an indefinite dharna from Thursday and would continue their agitation till their demands were met. The administration has ensured heavy police deployment in the area. The farmers had already stalled work at these sites on May 16. There is panic among buyers as in some cases, work till the seventh floors have been completed.

Farmers from Sorkha Jahidabad, Sarfabad, Baraula, Parthala, Kakrala, Salarpur, Gadhi Chaukhandi, Bahlolpur and Morna reached the builders' sites in sectors 74, 75, 76, 78, 79, 117, 116 and 113. Farmers, including women and children then sat on a dharna in sector 76.

"Authority official Ajay Srivastav reached the spot and received a memorandum from the farmers. The indefinite dharna will start from Thursday," said farmer leader Naresh Yadav.

"Noida authority had sought from one month's time to address the issues. The authority said it would hold special camps and allot the 5 per cent plots. But nothing happened. This time we would not budge till our demands are met," said Yadav.
