Farmers demonstrate against hi-tech city
A large number of farmers from different parts of Varanasi and its adjoining districts held a demonstration at Daudpur village in Varanasi on Tuesday against the establishment of proposed hi-tech city in Varanasi between Rohania and Mohansarai.

The demonstration was organised under the banner of Khet Bachchao Kissan Sangharsh Samiti.
The farmers and speakers were of the view that they would not allow the private company and State government to acquire the fertile land of farmers in the name of proposed hi-tech city.
The demonstrators also opposed the proposal for constructing a residential colony on fertile lands in Varanasi. They said that since their livelihood was completely dependent on farming, the State government was doing injustice by allowing private companies to acquire fertile lands in the name of development.
“The State government is minting money by patronising big corporate houses and private companies,” the convenor of Khet Bachchao Kissan Sangharsh Samiti Hira Lal alleged.
He said the Sangharsh Samiti would always oppose any move of the State government to acquire the fertile land of farmers in the name of development.
Hira Lal said that a ‘Maha Kisan Rally’ would be organised at Karauta Bazar
in Varanasi on October 29 to raise the voice of farmers effectively.
He further informed that former Prime Minister VP Singh and noted social worker Subhashini Ali will address the Maha-Kisan rally.
Heera Lal said that a 10-day long Kisan Yatra would be organised in Varanasi from October 2 which would cover different parts of the district.
