BURHANPUR DISTRICT police arrested a man from Faufnar village for killing his own daughter to save family prestige. The deceased had been allegedly raped by a neighbour and was four months pregnant.
Police sources said after accused Raheem Khan, residing in Faufnar village, 22 km from Burhanpur came to know through villagers that his 15 -year old daughter was pregnant, he questioned her.
The girl narrated the whole story to her father and also revealed that she was four months pregnant. Arif, a youth from the neighbourhood allegedly raped her when she went out to work in the field.
According to police, Raheem’s daughter agreed to commit suicide to save her family from humiliation. She consumed the solution used to stick PVC pipes but when her throat did not choke, her father strangulated her to death. The next morning, he, accompanied by other villagers took the girl’s body for burial.
An unidentified caller however informed Burhanpur Superintendent of Police D Srinivas Verma about the incident. During general interrogation, Raheem confessed his crime. Police seized the dead body and sent it for post mortem. A DNA test was also made to ascertain whether the girl was pregnant and was carrying alleged accused Arif’s child.
Shahpura police station in charge Dinesh Sharma said a case of murder was registered against Raheem and he was sent to jail. All aspects related to the incident are being investigated.
