Father sentenced for 50 years for raping daughters

A court in Vellore has awarded three life terms and an additional eight years sentence, totalling 50 years, to a 40-year-old man for raping his three daughters.
The Fast Track Court judge Ramachandran awarded three life terms totalling 42 years to Sampath, who runs a saloon here, under sections 376 (rape) and additional eight years under section 498 A (cruelty towards women, Section 354 (assault/outrage of modesty), besides imposing a fine of Rs 2,500.
The convict will have to undergo the sentences separately, the judge said in his order on Wednesday. A rape case was lodged against him in 2006 following a complaint by his wife at the All Women Police Station in Arakkonam in the district. He was arrested after medical tests on the girls confirmed that they were raped.
Considering the seriousness of the crime, the case was then transferred to the Fast Track Court. Sampath had came out on bail and remained absconding for nearly three years. However, he was traced and rearrested again in July.
