A COUPLE, which went for inter-religion marriage in Sehore in January this year, is on the run for the past few months for alleged harassment by the Sehore police.

Rajni Vishwakarma and Obaid Khan, who became man and wife on January 24, claim that they have been shifting from one city to another for the past couple of months due to the police pressure. Rajni alleged that Sehore police threatened them that they would not let them stay together and would hand her over to her parents.

Addressing a press conference, Rajni said she was adult and had married of her own will but her parents were against the marriage. She said the police were pressurising her in-laws to send her to her parents’ place.

“We are receiving threats and my in-laws are getting threatening phone calls,” said Rajni. “I don’t want to go to my parents’ house. We have been terrorised for months.” The Sehore Kotwali had registered a case of abduction against Obaid. The couple said they would be separated and Rajni would be forcibly sent back to her parents if they appear before the police.
