World number one Roger Federer has been left out of Switzerland's provisional team for next week's Davis Cup tie against Australia.
However, the newly crowned Australian Open champion could yet be called up by captain Severin Luthi for the World Group first round tie which takes place on indoor clay in Geneva on February 10-12.
Captains have until one hour before the draw, which in Geneva will take place at 1100 GMT on Thursday Feb. 9, to finalise their teams for the best-of-five tie.
Stanislas Wawrinka, George Bastl, Michael Lammer and Yves Allegro are the four players initially nominated by Luthi and he can make a total of two changes.
Federer has expressed a desire to play having helped Switzerland to beat Britain in last year's playoffs. He is currently resting after his Australian Open triumph on Sunday and is likely to make a decision about playing next week.
The Australians are definitely without their best player after world number 11 Lleyton Hewitt announced his unavailability last week due to an ankle injury.
Peter Luczak, Wayne Arthurs, Chris Guccione and Paul Hanley have been named in their team by captain John Fitzgerald.
