French Open champion Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain advanced to the fourth round of the US Open here Saturday by spoiling the 24th birthday of Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela.

Third seed Ferrero's 7-5, 7-5, 6-1 victory over 33rd seed Chela advanced him to a fourth-round matchup Monday against 33-year-old American veteran Todd Martin, who ousted compatriot Robby Ginepri 6-7 (2/7), 7-6 (7/4), 6-4, 6-4.
