Producer TD Kumar’s Sonia Sonia, a film based on Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s life, is reportedly stuck at the censor board for clearance.
“The film has been completed. We submitted it two months back for the censor certificate. I am confident that it will soon be cleared and we will be able to release it by June end,” says the producer.
“These kind of films are very sensitive and hence even the censor board is taking their time before clearing it. They have asked us to get clearance from Gandhi. We have approached her office, and hopefully we will get the clearance soon,” he adds.
The film stars NSD actress Purva Parag in the title role of Sonia Gandhi. Purva has previously acted in the TV serial Dhaba Junction on Sab TV as Preeto. “I replicate Sonia’s life from the age of 18 years onwards in the film. It was very challenging to act as her on screen. I read a lot about her and also studied her mannerisms on TV so as to do justice to her persona,” says the actress.
Shooting for the film began way back in September 2004. And the producer hopes that the audience will get to see the Congress leader on the celluloid very soon.
