That bindaas jodi is at work again. Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi, funnymen who rocked in Munnabhai MBBS, are back together and that's the big USP of this film.
The makers of Anthony Kaun Hai? sure couldn't have been more bang-on in timing its release. With teasers of Munnabhai Bhai 2 on air, Anthony… is a sort of appetiser that precedes the main course.
So, first things first: Don't go in looking for Munna Bhai and Circuit. You will enjoy Anthony Kaun Hai? a little more that way. The langotiya yaars of Munnabhai MBBS are more of an odd couple here, with nothing in common.
Here's what's on: Dutt is Master Madan, style bhai of a killer who orders Chardonnay with the same deadpan ease as he kills. Warsi is Champ (short for Champak Chaudhary, if you please), small-time conman with too many identities — one who peddles fake passports in Bangkok and is always on the run. Madan lands up in town to bump off Warsi. It's a crazy case of mistaken identity actually — the assassin believes Champ is Anthony Gonsalves, a journalist he has taken a supari for.
Director Raj Kaushal's new film isn't exactly the laugh riot that the promos promised. It's more of a sleekly done thriller, with a smattering of fun moments (mostly by way of the smart oneliners that Dutt mouths). If you are a Hollywood junkie, you'll get the basic drift as soon as it all kicks off: The film has shades of 2001's Who Is Cletis Tout? (Christian Slater, Tim Allen). If you are not, Anthony Kaun Hai? is another one in Bollywood's burgeoning list of hatke masala attempts.
Watch it as the only watchable Hindi flick this week, if you must.
