FIR against Amar: HC seeks progress report from UP govt

Passing the order, a Division Bench comprising Justice Amar Saran and Justice Surendra Singh also asked the Enforcement Directorate to inform the court, by filing an affidavit, as to what decision it has taken regarding taking up investigation into charges of money laundering levelled in the FIR filed on October 15 last year by a Kanpur resident Shiva Kant Tripathi.
The order comes on a writ petition filed by Tripathi seeking directions from the court for expeditious completion of the investigation.
The court fixed September 20 as the next date of hearing in the matter.
In the FIR, it has been alleged that Singh, who was earlier secretary general of Samajwadi Party, had committed large-scale financial irregularities in his capacity as Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Development Council when the state was under that party's rule.
The allegations have been refuted by Singh whose arrest has already been stayed by the court till September 20 next.
