Five taxi drivers held in Narwana gangrape case

Police on Friday arrested five taxi drivers on a charge of raping a woman of Sanyana village in Narwana in Jind district.

Police on Friday arrested five taxi drivers on a charge of raping a woman of Sanyana village in Narwana in Jind district.

Vehicles used in the alleged crime have been seized. The accused have been identified as Sunder Khatri, Sunder Jat, Manish, Ramesh Kumar and Balwan Singh.

A 25-year-old married woman of Sanyana village left for her parental home in Karnal on Wednesday morning. Sunder, who is of the same village and known to the victim, offered her lift in his car to the Narwana bus stand. On the way, Sunder and his friend allegedly raped her in the car.

Later, Sunder took her to Sacha Khera village and forced her to sit in his friend's car. Both again allegedly raped her in the car and left her at the bus stand.

In Narwana, she boarded a Kaithal-bound van, in which a passenger was already sitting. Taking advantage of the victim being alone, the van driver and the passenger allegedly raped her and dumped her. Later, she contacted her family in Sanyana and registered lodged a complaint with the police.
