HEAVY PRE-MONSOON showers lashed the City this evening. The almost 1.5 inches of rainfall provided respite from the scorching heat of past several days.

The day began with the sun hidden behind a cover of clouds and raised hopes that the City would early pre-monsoon showers like Delhi a couple of days ago. However, the clouds drifted away in the afternoon only to return later in the evening. There was a sudden downpour at around 5 pm that soaked the surprised people.

According to Metrological Department sources, around 1.5 inches of rainfall was recorded during one and a half hours. It rained heavily from 5 to 6 pm after which a drizzle continued for another half-an-hour. The Meteorological Department had forecast flash rains in the Malwa region and more light rain showers are expected in the coming days.

The wind velocity had increased to 85 kms/hr, while it was about 20-25/kms/hour yesterday and normally is about 10-12Kms/hour. However, the temperature increased slightly today at 40.7 degree Celsius. Humidity is expected to increase if more rains don’t come soon and regularly during the remaining part of summer.
