Tamil Nadu Local Administration Minister MK Stalin garlanded the statue of Ambedkar at Chennai Port Trust while AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa paid homage to the late leader at Kodanadu estate in Nilgiris district, where she had gone for rest.

Elsewhere in the state, the statues of Dr Ambedkar were garlanded by leaders of various political parties.
