They have also been asked to improve quality of antenatal services, immunisation and delivery of service by auxiliary nurse midwives.
Sandhu, who was speaking at the inauguration of a two-day conference of civil surgeons, deputy civil surgeons in Panchkula on Tuesday, said the main objective of the conference was to review important health indicators like maternal and child mortality rates in the state and prepare a roadmap to improve these indicators in a time-bound manner.
Dr Rakesh Gupta, mission director, National Rural Health Mission, made a presentation on the status of sub-centres based on the recent supportive supervision activities conducted in 201 centres in the state.
Dr Narveer Singh, director general, health services, said regular monitoring by medical officers is the key to achieve improvement in functioning of sub-centres.
