As part of its crackdown on its members supporting expelled party leader Uma Bharti, the BJP on Wednesday suspended former Delhi Industry Minister HS Balli, an MLA from the party in the wake of his joining her "Janadesh" rally in New Delhi.

Balli, a three-time MLA, was among several disgruntled BJP leaders, including his mentor Madan Lal Khurana, who turned up at Bharti's rally in New Delhi on Tuesday in defiance of party directives.

Bharti too had visited him last month when he was on hunger stike -- which the BJP did not endorse -- over the court-ordered demolitions in the Capital.

"He (Balli) has been suspended for indiscipline. He has been showing disregard for the party for quite a long time now with his public outbursts against his own party, which is not acceptable," Delhi BJP chief Harsh Vardhan said.

Immediately after the party action against his aide, Khurana said he would appoint Balli as head of his Delhi Bachao Morcha that he intends to launch to protest the MCD's demolition drives in Delhi.

"The suspension of Balli is unfortunate. Earlier, the party refused to support him when he went on a hunger strike to protest demolitions and now this suspension," Khurana said.

He further added, "But he will now lead my 'Delhi Bachao Morcha' which I will launch next week."

On Tuesday, the party ordered suspension of its leaders Sanghpriya Gautam and Swami Chinmayanand who also defied party directions and joined Bharti's "Janadesh" rally.
