"All the bodies were found lying near a canal in Harauli village in Muzaffarnagar district," police inspector RP Singh told IANS on telephone.
As the faces of the persons were burnt badly, identification of the bodies has been quite difficult, he added.
Police believe that after killing the four people, miscreants threw acid on their faces to make it difficult to ascertain their identity.
The deceased are a man, a woman and two children.
Muzaffarnagar is about 350 km from Lucknow.
