Dhananjaya Tiwari, Punit Kumar, Shabbir Alam and Salim Ahmed were nabbed during a search operation by the police near Metro stations.

"These four accused were stealing electric wires used at Metro stations. They confessed to have committed two more thefts from the station premises in the last fortnight," said Rajesh Dwivedi, Indirapuram station house officer (SHO).

Police said three of the four accused worked at the Metro site as daily wagers, while the fourth accused is a scrap dealer.

"We worked with the company which has undertaken the electrification work for Metro stations in Ghaziabad," Punit Kumar, one of the accused, told the police.

Dwivedi said police was trying to get in touch with the Metro officials in Delhi, but the latter did not respond.

"Left with no options, we have registered a case in connection with the theft reported to us by our sub-inspector," Dwivedi said.

The four accused were later produced before a magistrate. The Police have registered a case under Section 414 of IPC. The two under-construction stations at Kaushambi and Vaishali are scheduled to be inaugurated on July 9.
