The mechanised boat in which the fishermen, who had put to sea from Rameswaram on Wednesday, sank in the sea due to heavy winds. However, all the four swam to the Nainar Island.

MH Jawahirullah, state convener of Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, who is representing Ramanathapuram Assembly constituency, said he had taken up the issue with state fisheries minister KA Jayapal.

The minister said that government was taking all steps for bringing them back to Tamil Nadu.

Two other missing mechanised boats with eight fishermen on board from Rameswaram were traced to Kottaipattinam coastal village of Tamil Nadu's Pudukottai district this morning. Their boats sank in the sea due to heavy winds.

In another incident last night, four fishermen managed to reach the Mandapam coast safely after their boat sank due to inclement weather.

Nine fishing boats have sunk during this week.
