Four people succumbed to severe cold conditions in different parts of Uttar Pradesh, taking the toll in the state this winter to 117.
Two elderly people, died in Gonda district while one death was reported from Sitapur and another constable succumbed to intense coldwave in Gorakhpur, officials said in Lucknow.
Though cold conditions persisted in most parts of the state, Met department officials said, adding that sunshine on Thursday morning provided some respite.
Najibabad, which recorded a minimum of 2 degree Celsius was the coldest place in the state and capital city Lucknow, recorded a minimum of 3.2 degrees Celsius on Thursday morning, which was four notches below normal, while Varanasi recorded a low of 4.1 degree Celsius, three degrees below normal.
Kanpur shivered at 3.6 degree Celsius, which was four notches below normal, while minimum temperature in Allahabad settled at 7.3 Celsius, two degrees below normal.
Sultanpur recorded a minimum of 2.8 degree Celsius, which was six degree below normal and minimum temperature in Gorakhpur was 3.3 degree Celsius, six degree below normal.
