Communist rebels in Nepal have abducted four Polish men who were trekking in the Mount Everest region, their colleagues said.

Communist rebels in Nepal have abducted four Polish men who were trekking in the Mount Everest region, their colleagues said on Monday.

The Polish trekkers had called their colleagues using satellite phones to say they were being held captive, said Mukunda Pathik of Kathmandu-based Nepal Esperanto Association.

Two of the trekkers were working for the language organisation, and they were joined on their trek by two of their Polish friends.
