Suspected rebels of the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) killed the villagers in Chalgi village of Khuti, about 70 km from in Ranchi.

"The killing seems to be the outcome of an internal rivalry," Khuti Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar told IANS by telephone.

Maoist rebels are active in 18 out of Jharkhand's 24 districts. More than 1,450 people have been killed in Maoist related violence in the last eight years.
