Gujarat government on Wednesday told court in Ahmadabad that further investigation into the death of Kausar Bi, wife of fake police encounter victim Sohrabuddin Sheikh, will be a futile exercise.

The submission was made by special public prosecutor VP Atre in reply to a rejoinder filed by Sohrabuddin's brother Rubabuddin Sheikh last week in a city sessions court.

Sohrabuddin was killed in a fake encounter on the outskirts of the city on November 26, 2005. His wife Kausar Bi was later killed and her body was disposed of.

Atre contended that since a long time has lapsed after Kausar Bi was killed under mysterious circumstances, chances of getting evidences were bleak.

Atre further submitted that since no autopsy was done on Kausar Bi's body (which was never recovered by the investigating agency) embarking on investigation at this point of time will be a futile exercise.

Suspended IPS officer DG Vanzara and 13 other policemen are behind bars for the fake encounter of Sohrabudin and alleged murder of Kausar Bi.

Last week Rubabudin, in his rejoinder had contended that the investigation officer had not conducted the investigation properly in the Sohrabuddin case and the chargesheet filed by the CID (Crime) was silent on some important issues.
