A LARGE number of gas victims, pensioners and widows of Gas Peedit Nirashrit Pension Bhogi Sangharsh Morcha staged a protest march from Yadgar-e-Shahjahani Park to the State Assembly and later courted arrest at the Lily Talkies today. The rallyists protested against the State Government’s decision to cancel pensions of those people who are survived by a son.

The protestors raised several other demands during the march. Some of the major demands included setting up of a welfare body for old and aged, devising easier procedures for distribution of pension through post offices, recognising people living under poverty lines and giving them ration cards, employment opportunities for gas victims and setting up of a Gas Tragedy Memorial.

Morcha president Balkrishan Namdeo and senior members Rampyari Yadav, Firoza Bi and Kamla Bai led the march along with several others. Meanwhile, a similar protest march would be organised tomorrow by members of Bhopal Gas Peedit Sangarsh Sahyog Samiti.
