Four Class 11 students of a reputed public school in Ghaziabad used their ‘school-boy’ image to take advantage of unsuspecting people and steal their mobile phones.
The four were apprehended by the police during a checking operation, when they were found making a plan to commit dacoity near Raj Nagar District Centre on Friday.
The four students are residents of Bisrakh (Greater Noida), Chipiyana (near Vijay Nagar) and Shastri Nagar area of Ghaziabad.
All are in the age group of 16 to 17 years and study in the same class at a private school located at Bulandshahr Industrial area of Kavi Nagar.
The four students used to operate in groups of two and would stop people on city roads. They would ask them for their mobile phones to call their parents.
The minors used to jump into action from 7pm, after attending their coaching classes.
“As they were minors, most people allowed them to make the call. When they handed over the mobile to the students, they would overpower the victim by hitting him and escape on their bike,” said a police spokesperson.
The minors were nabbed It during a checking operation and taken to Kavi Nagar police station, where they spilled out the entire story.
The police recovered four mobile phones, four knives and a bike from their possession, and booked them under sections 399 (preparation to commit dacoity) and 402 (assembling for purpose of committing dacoity) of IPC.
“They wanted extra cash to enjoy a lavish lifestyle. They have admitted to their involvement in around a dozen such incidents in the past couple of months. We are trying figure out the owners of the seized mobiles,” the spokesperson said.
