An 11-year-old girl was pawned off by her father for a mere Rs 1,200 in the ancient temple town of Ujjain.

Roshan Sathia, from the Sathi community, residing in Juna Mill locality lodged a missing person's report a month ago. Even as a police investigation was underway, some relatives turned up with the victim on Thursday afternoon at her home and the matter was exposed.

"It was a family matter and has been settled, so no case was registered. Unfortunately, this particular community has a tradition of pawning off women," said Superintendent of Police G Janardan.
