"God is a woman"
My belief in God is steadfast. I believe that God is a woman. The Supreme Being who gave birth to the universe can only be a woman. I talk to Her all the time. She is my best friend, one with whom I can share my joys and insecurities. She resides within me and keeps a tab on all my actions.
I don’t think if something’s going wrong in my life the Gods have conspired it that way. These are circumstances that reinforce my faith in Her. Small tragedies are results of our Karma. After all, sins of the past life will present themselves before us in some way or the other.
I’ve been to Vaishno Devi, Tirupathi and the Amarnath temple but my favourite place of worship is my bed. The first thing I do when I open my eyes every morning is have a word with Her and pray for a good day. There’s no fixed time during the day for me to remember Her. Also, before going to sleep, discussing the day with Her is a must.
Small instances in life serve to strengthen my faith in Her. We are Bengalis and my mother is a devout follower of Ma Kali and I don’t remember a day going by when she’s not worshipped Her. But there was no compulsion for me to adhere to any religious regime. Festivals were considered more a matter of flaunting new dresses and an occasion for communal gathering.
Spirituality for me is a journey within myself. I’ve read up a lot of Kahlil Gibran and Osho and I think that luck has played a big role in my success. But I do believe that God helps those who help themselves.
