BHOPAL ATHLETES opened their account on the second day of the CBSE National Athletics Meet being hosted by Maharishi Vidya Mandir (MVM) at Tatya Tope Stadium here.
In all, three gold medals were grabbed by the City athletes in different event organised today.
With two gold in 100m and 800m of girls’ under-14 category, Krati of Carmel Convent School, BHEL, enthralled the spectators. Asif Khan of Maharishi Vidya Mandir made the hosts happy by winning gold in under-19 boys’ 800m event.
Krati won the gold in 100m taking 13 seconds. Shweta of Bhatinda and R Ramaya of Chennai posed tough challenge but failed to stop Krati from winning the event.
Such was the close contest between them that the second and third positions came with the timing of 13.4 seconds and 13.5 seconds.
The day belonged to Krati as she repeated her performance in the 800m also. With the timing of 2.33 seconds, she bagged the first position. Palak Lad and Mandeep Kaur had to be satisfied with the second and third positions respectively.
The stadium went into raptures when Asif of MVM claimed gold in the 800m. “He was superb in the event. His win will motivate other City athletes to perform better in the rest of the days”, said Shashank, a spectator.
Madhya Pradesh Council of Sports vice-chairman Om Yadav was the chief guest of the second day. Besides, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State organisation general secretary Kaptan Singh Solanki visited the stadium to the see the events. Organising secretary S N Rai and others were present on the occasion.
