The miscreants tied up the woman and walked away easily as the beat cops were found missing from the post.

The incident took place around 11.30 am when two youths arrived at the 448/960, Nanak Nagar house of Hasan Zaheer. Their knock on the door was answered by Hasan’s wife Zeenat. The duo enquired the woman if she had wanted to sell off her Maruti car.

Zeenat told them that her husband had already sold the car two months ago. But, when the youths asked for Hasan, she said he had left for his medical store at Hasanganj, Unnao. The duo asked for Hasan’s phone number and when Zeenat went inside to write down the number, they followed her inside and pounced upon her. Before she could know their intention, the intruders started hitting her. One of the miscreants attacked her with a knife when she raised an alarm.

In an attempt to defend, Zeenat suffered gashes on her hands. The duo tied her and snatched from her the keys of the almirah and collected Rs 5,000 in cash, a gold chain, some other jewellery and a mobile phone from a wallet in the almirah.

Bleeding profusely, Zeenat somehow managed to rescue her and started screaming for help while the ruffians were ransacking the almirah for valuables.

Hearing the scream, Hasan’s sister Arman, who lives nearby, and other local residents rushed to her house. Sensing trouble, the robbers ran out of the house. People could not muster courage to lay hands on the robbers as the latter were brandishing a country-made revolver and a knife. The miscreants walked away with the booty threatening the residents.

Daylight robbery in the busy locality caused panic in the vicinity. Though cops were informed immediately, station officer (SO) RB Singh Yadav reached the place after an hour. The injured victim was admitted to the hospital.

It was revealed later that two youths had visited a garage owner Guddu near Thakurganj crossing two days back inquiring about Hasan’s car.
