Samajwadi Party, an outside supporter of the UPA government, brought embarrassment to the Congress-led coalition by leading protest in both Houses of Parliament over corruption and price rise on the second anniversary of the coalition on Monday.

Opposition parties, including BJP and JD(U), joined the protest action by SP members leading to adjournment of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha for two and one hours respectively within minutes of their assembling for the day.

SP members in the Lok Sabha trooped into the well raising slogans do saal ki yahi kamaai, bhrashtachar aur mehangai (achievements of two years of UPA rule -- corruption and price rise).

BJP Deputy Leader VK Malhotra said the matter which was being raised was "very serious" while JD(U) leader Prabhunath Singh said several cases of corruption have been reported in the two years of the UPA rule.

SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav alleged that a large number of corruption cases were "brushed under the carpet" and the people were facing hardships in the wake of price spiral.

The SP and the Congress have been at loggerheads since the formation of the coalition two years back.

Speaker Somnath Chatterjee's repeated pleas to SP members to return to their seats fell on deaf ears, forcing him to adjourn the House till 1300 hours.
