The proposal has been sent to the Principal Secretary, Uttar Pradesh Nagar Vikas. Official sources said that required steps have been taken for issuance of appropriate order and allocation of funds would be done by the state government before July 31, 2006. It may be mentioned that with an objective to solve the parking problem in Civil Lines and Chowk area, ADA has prepared a plan to construct an underground two-storeyed parking at PD Tandon Park with an estimated cost of Rs 9 crore. Over 600 light vehicles could be parked in the new premises proposed to be built in an area of 11880 square metre.
Moreover a modern park equipped with musical fountain, benches, sliding etc would also be developed there on 5940 square metre area with a budget of Rs 11 lakh.
This proposal had been presented before the Allahabad High Court seeking funds from the state government for the purpose. Meanwhile the state government has informed the court that it would release an order in this effect this month.
It may be mentioned that the High Court in its recent order has banned holding of political rallies, meetings and private programmes at PD Tandon Park.
Therefore, the ADA has started exploring the chances of providing a modern parking system in the basement of the park in a bid to give relief to the citizens in Civil Lines and Chowk area.
